Frequently Asked Questions

Who are the founders of Gamma Sigma Gamma?

Gamma Sigma Gamma was founded by Hildra Anna-Jean, Ph.D., and Stephanie Robinson-Scott to bring the fraternity experience to online and nontraditional students. Together, they also founded Sigma Chi Psi Sorority, creating opportunities for both brotherhood and sisterhood within these student communities.

As the organizations grew, the founders established the SCP & GSG Association to bring shared operations and resources under one umbrella.

“We set out to reimagine where the sorority and fraternity experience could exist in online higher education. By extending its traditions and shared experiences to online and nontraditional students, we are building connections that become part of the college experience and continue long after graduation. Equally important is building a culture where skills and talents of others have room to become contributions, and contributions can become possibilities……”

Who can request an application?

GSG welcomes men pursuing education through online and nontraditional paths. You can request an application as:

  • A newly enrolled, undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral student
  • A student attending a community or technical college
  • An alumnus with an official transcript showing degree completion
  • A faculty member at an online university, community college, or technical college
  • A certificate holder with the credentials requested in the application
  • A military applicant with qualifying training or vocational education records

New students can provide an enrollment verification letter. Military applicants may use the documentation described below in place of traditional school attendance, subject to review.

How does the application process work?

Applications are available year-round. You have one year to complete both parts and submit your credentials.

  1. Receive Part One. After you pay the application fee, Part One is sent to you by email.
  2. Complete Part One and submit your credentials. The application explains which documents you need and where and how to send them.
  3. Complete Part Two. After submitting Part One, you’ll receive Part Two, which includes written questions and a video interview.
  4. Receive your decision. After Part Two, your confirmation email provides an estimated review timeframe. Approved applicants receive an intake invitation. If your application is not approved, you’ll receive the decision and reason by email.

GPA requirement: A minimum 2.8 GPA on a 4.0 scale is required. Newly enrolled students who do not yet have a GPA can provide an enrollment verification letter.

How do I submit academic or military credentials?

Academic records: Arrange for your official or unofficial transcript to come directly from your school, a faculty member, or a service such as Parchment or the National Student Clearinghouse. Follow the submission instructions in your application. Transcripts forwarded from your personal email or student email account cannot be accepted.

Newly enrolled students provide an enrollment verification letter. Certificate holders will find their credential instructions in Part One.

Military records: GSG accepts at least one of the following for review:

  • A Joint Services Transcript (JST)
  • Credentialing Opportunities Online (COOL) certificates
  • Military training records evaluated by the American Council on Education (ACE)
  • Technical training certificates, including A School, C School, or Tech School
  • A Letter of Service for applicants currently serving with at least six months of active service

If your training records are not yet available, a Letter of Service may serve as temporary verification, with additional records requested later. After paying the application fee, you’ll receive Part One by email. Your email and application include instructions on where and how to submit your credentials, including an official JST PDF. Please do not send a DD-214; it is not accepted because it contains sensitive personal information.

What is considered during application review?

We review your eligibility, credentials, and responses to understand your interest in GSG and readiness to participate. A complete application helps us get to know you and give your submission a thorough review.

Please complete both application parts and submit the required records within one year. Follow the instructions carefully, and explain any missing information. Academic applicants must meet the 2.8 GPA requirement or provide enrollment verification if newly enrolled without a GPA; military credentials are reviewed through the military education pathway.

The application also asks you to follow our Instagram and Facebook pages and provide social media information. We review this information for consistency with our commitment to inclusion. If your account is private, please accept a review follow request within five days. If you don’t use social media, your application email provides an alternative.

We welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and do not discriminate based on race, sex, religion, sexuality, or similar personal characteristics.

What happens during intake?

Intake is an opportunity to get to know GSG, connect with other participants, and prepare for membership. It takes place primarily online over six to ten weeks, with activities focused on relationships, practical life skills, and Greek-letter traditions.

You’ll learn about the fraternity, take part in shared activities, and explore how you would like to contribute. After successful completion, participants are encouraged to attend an in-person gathering.

Throughout intake, you and the fraternity have the opportunity to consider whether membership is the right fit.

What should I know about invitations and fees?

An intake invitation gives you the opportunity to participate in the membership process. Invitations are generally valid for the year issued. Any available extension and updated terms are communicated by email.

A non-refundable organization and administration fee is required for intake. The amount varies with operational needs and is provided with your invitation so you can review the commitment before deciding to participate.

Membership follows successful completion of intake; an invitation or payment alone does not guarantee admission. If you or the fraternity end the process, the fee remains non-refundable. Participation and membership are subject to the fraternity’s bylaws, policies, and procedures, and violations may result in disaffiliation.

Why are some details kept private?

Some traditions and intake activities are reserved for participants, as is customary in some Greek-letter organizations. Your invitation includes the schedule and details you need to prepare.

You can explore membership and application information publicly before taking that step. If you have a question about what to expect, contact support@gammasigmagamma.org.
